Pre-Panchakarma Preparation
Based on the information you have provided when you make your reservation, our in-residence Ayurvedic expert (Vaidya) will recommend a specific “Pre-Panchakarma Preparation” program for you. This program is completed anywhere from 5 to 14 days before you begin the Panchakarma program. For maximum benefit it is best to do this program in-residence at Lancaster Health Center. But if time does not allow, you can also do this program at home prior to your arrival.
The purpose of the Pre-Panchakarma Preparation program is to soften and mobilize metabolic waste products and impurities (called “Ama” ), that have accumulated in the digestive tract and in the various tissues, channels (“Shrotas”) and micro-pores of the body.
The classical Ayurveda texts explain that this Pre-Panchakarma Preparation program is also a mini “Panchakarma” in itself, as it consists of the same three stages of the full Panchakarma program offered at Lancaster. These include:
- Oleation for lubricating and loosening impurities (Ama) by intake of ghee or oil.
- Swedena for mobilizing the loosened impurities by application of heat through warm bath or shower, drinking hot water, or using warming spices, teas or herbal preparations.
- Verechena – natural elimination of the loosened, mobilized impurities using gentle laxatives such as herbal supplements or oils.
At Lancaster we consider the Pre-Panchakarma Preparation program to be essential as part of your total Panchakarma program. The Pre-Panchakarma Preparation program supports effective physiological cleansing and rejuvenation, and ensures you gain the maximum from your total Panchakarma program.
